Visit siteNavigating autism support in Singapore can feel overwhelming for families. This guide brings together the key intervention approaches, government subsidies, schooling options, and community organisations that parents of children with autism should know about, so you can make confident, informed decisions for your child.
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is the most widely researched intervention for autism and is considered the gold standard in autism treatment. It uses data-driven techniques to build communication, social, and adaptive living skills while reducing behaviours that interfere with learning. In Singapore, ABA is offered by private clinics and integrated into some early intervention programmes. Other evidence-based approaches include the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) for very young children, speech and language therapy for communication development, and occupational therapy for sensory integration and daily living skills. The most effective programmes are individualised, measurable, and adjusted regularly based on each child's progress data.
Singapore offers several government-funded pathways for children with autism. The Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC) provides subsidised intervention for children aged zero to six, while the Development Support Programme (DSP) and Intervention Support Programme (ISP) support children in preschools. Families can also tap the Child Disability Assistance Scheme and the Caregivers Training Grant to offset therapy costs. For school-age children, the Ministry of Education's Special Education (SPED) schools and satellite partnerships with mainstream schools provide structured learning environments. Understanding which subsidy or programme your child qualifies for can significantly reduce the financial burden of ongoing therapy and care.
No single programme fits every child with autism. The right support depends on your child's age, developmental profile, and your family's goals. Look for providers that use proven assessment tools such as VB-MAPP, PEAK, and the Essential for Living (EFL) framework, and that are overseen by qualified clinicians such as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). A good programme will set measurable goals, share progress data with you regularly, and involve the family in generalising skills to home and community settings. For children approaching primary school, a structured school-readiness programme that builds classroom routines, peer interaction, and academic foundations can ease the transition and improve long-term outcomes.
Starlight Centre provides after-school care and therapeutic support for children with autism in Singapore, grounded in ABA methodology and overseen by our Clinical Director, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with over 20 years of experience. Our RISE™ Early Intervention Programme prepares children aged four to seven for primary school through friendship skills, classroom management, peer modelling, and academic readiness. We also run holiday programmes and ongoing after-school support that help children generalise skills in a nurturing, sensory-aware environment. If you are exploring options for your child, we are happy to share what has worked for our families and help you find the right fit, even if that is not us.
